Ford Sues US Over Drawback Claims

Law360, New York (September 4, 2009, 5:05 PM EDT) -- Ford Motor Co. has sued the U.S. government, saying it should not have to repay a portion of the drawback refunds it received in 1996 and 1997 because the government cannot reach back and review claims that date back to about a decade ago.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade, Ford said the government did not have the authority to reclaim the drawbacks, which are refunds of customs duties companies pay on imports that are subsequently exported.
