Trump Greenlights Sanctions, Steel Tariffs On Turkey

Law360 (October 11, 2019, 7:54 PM EDT) -- President Donald Trump authorized sanctions on Turkish officials on Monday in response to Turkey's military offensive in Syria, while vowing to immediately stop negotiations on a $100 billion trade deal and raise tariffs on Turkish steel to 50%.

"Turkey’s action is precipitating a humanitarian crisis and setting conditions for possible war crimes," Trump said in a statement. "The United States will aggressively use economic sanctions to target those who enable, facilitate, and finance these heinous acts in Syria.  I am fully prepared to swiftly destroy Turkey’s economy if Turkish leaders continue down this dangerous and destructive path."
