Presidents Immune From Criminal Probes, Trump Tells 2nd Circ.

Law360 (October 11, 2019, 10:56 PM EDT) -- Lawyers for President Donald Trump argued Friday that as a sitting president, he has “absolute immunity” from criminal investigations and therefore the Second Circuit should block the Manhattan district attorney from subpoenaing Trump’s tax returns.

The lawyers’ arguments, which were amplified but not endorsed fully in an amicus brief from the U.S. Department of Justice, were meant to bolster the appeal Trump filed Monday after a New York federal district court dismissed his suit seeking to block the subpoena.
