DOJ Forges Divestiture Deal In Regions, AmSouth Merger

Law360, New York (October 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After being eyed over antitrust concerns, a proposed merger between Regions Financial Corp. and AmSouth Bancorporation is slated to go through after the companies agreed to sell off 52 branch offices.

The U.S. Department of Justice said on Thursday that divesting the 52 AmSouth branch offices, which hold approximately $2.7 billion in deposits in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee, will resolve competitive concerns raised by the companies' proposed merger.
