Chevron Hit With $1.8B Contamination Suit

Law360, New York (September 9, 2009, 1:29 PM EDT) -- A group of Ohio landowners has smacked Chevron USA Inc. and six affiliates with a $1.76 billion suit alleging property damage from petroleum pollution that began in the 1980s.

The property and punitive damages claims, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, allege that Chevron allowed gasoline products and a brew of other toxic substances to seep from an old refinery near Cincinnati into the groundwater, spreading into a plume that contaminated the land owned by the 16 plaintiffs....
