Chemical Co.'s Contract Trial Win Bumped Up To $75M
By Daniel Siegal (November 26, 2019, 6:18 PM EST) -- A Chinese chemical company is now owed $75 million for winning a trial on its claims that the heads of its U.S. distributor secretly created a competing business, after a North Carolina federal judge tacked an additional $40 million on to a roughly $35 million jury verdict.
Roughly five weeks after a Greensboro jury found in favor of Shangyu Sunfit Chemical Co. Ltd. in its unfair competition and contract counterclaims against its former distributor Hongda Group Ltd. LLC and its three principals, Gary McKnight, Raymond Perkins and Wei Xu, U.S. District Judge N.C. Tilley Jr. on Monday trebled some of the damages that the jury awarded....
