Artificial Sweetener Producers Hit With Lawsuit

Law360 (October 23, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A lawsuit seeking class action status has been filed alleging price-fixing in the lucrative market for artificial sweetener aspartame, adding to the litigation woes of the product’s producers.

The suit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, joins a myriad of other suits alleging the manufacturers have monopolized the market since 1992.

The plaintiff, Yongmi Kim, owns a coffee shop in California, and was an indirect purchaser of the sweetener from one or more of the defendants.
