WTO Appeals Panel Aims To Finish 3 Cases After Shuttering

Law360 (December 3, 2019, 3:12 PM EST) -- If the World Trade Organization's Appellate Body shutters next week due to the U.S.' refusal to allow new judges to fill its vacant seats, the panel will continue to complete its work on just three of 13 appeals pending before it, the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body chairman said Tuesday.

The Appellate Body currently sits with just three of its seven seats occupied, the minimum number required to hear new cases. Two more judges will see their terms lapse on Dec. 10, and there had been an open question about whether those judges would stay on to complete work on pending appeals....
