Trigeant Targets Venezuelan Oil Co. Over Monopoly

Law360, New York (September 17, 2009, 3:20 PM EDT) -- Florida-based petroleum refiner Trigeant Ltd. has lodged its third attempt to extract damages from Venezuela's state-owned crude oil supplier for allegedly driving the company out of the Florida market for paving asphalt.

The third amended complaint — filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida — is Trigeant's attempt to overcome jurisdictional concerns Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks found with the case against the foreign entity when he dismissed an earlier complaint against Petroleos De Venezuela SA in late August.
