Vietnam Plastic Bag Makers Get Unfair Subsidies: DOC

Law360, New York (September 18, 2009, 3:27 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce has issued the results of its first countervailing duty investigation of exports from Vietnam, finding that the country's plastic bag producers benefit from unfair Vietnamese government subsidies.

The watershed investigation has resulted in a preliminary determination, posted Thursday, that producers and exporters of polyethylene retail carrier bags from Vietnam have received net countervailable subsidies as high as 4.24 per cent.

The mandatory respondents, Advance Polybag, Chin Sheng Co. Ltd. And Fotai Vietnam Enterprise Corp. received preliminary subsidy rates of 0.20, 1.69...
