6th Circ. Affirms $4.5M US Steel Enviro Settlement

Law360, New York (September 22, 2009, 1:22 PM EDT) -- An appeals court has affirmed a $4.45 million settlement between Michigan residents and U.S. Steel over alleged harmful discharge from a local steel mill, overruling challenges by class representatives and a group of class members not represented by the designated class counsel.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit on Monday affirmed the majority of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan's award, although it vacated and remanded more than $1.3 million in attorneys’ fees for further explanation.
