China Appeals WTO Copyright Import Ruling

Law360, New York (September 22, 2009, 5:52 PM EDT) -- China has appealed last month's World Trade Organization ruling ordering the country to relax its import restrictions on films, books and other copyright-intensive media products coming from the U.S.

Beijing lodged its appeal Tuesday, triggering an appeals process that must take place within a 90-day window.

Chinese trade officials vowed to fight the ruling just days after its Aug. 12 release, denying that their import policies impeded foreign media companies from reaching Chinese consumer markets.
