Scranton Times' Preempted Claims Cut In Copying Suit

Law360, New York (September 24, 2009, 2:40 PM EDT) -- The federal judge overseeing The Scranton Times LP's suit accusing rival newspaper publisher Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co. of copying its obituaries has dismissed several state law claims that paralleled federal copyright law claims while upholding conversion and breach of contract claims not preempted by the Copyright Act.
