Murphy Oil Settles Refinery Fire Claims

Law360, New York (September 24, 2009, 4:47 PM EDT) -- Murphy Oil USA Inc. has settled a consolidated action brought by residents living near a Meraux, La., petroleum refinery that burst into flames June 10, 2003, allegedly causing property damage and physical injuries, with a federal court dismissing the original cases individually.

Judge Carl Barbier of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on Sept. 23 dismissed all claims in five of the suits without prejudice to the right of any party to seek enforcement of the settlement if it is not consummated...
