GOP Sen. Urges Clearing Mid-Band Spectrum In 5G Race
By Christopher Cole (February 25, 2020, 5:03 PM EST) -- U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., on Tuesday urged policymakers to quickly repurpose mid-band spectrum in order to open up more of the airwaves to next-generation wireless use, saying it's critical to beating China to the 5G finish line.
Blackburn, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee's telecom panel, told technology industry experts at a Capitol Hill event that clearing mid-band space that many observers consider underutilized will be pivotal to winning the race to deploy 5G, much like the United States did with 4G networks.
