Tribal Governments Seek Parity With States On Tax Incentives

By Stephen Cooper (March 4, 2020, 7:25 PM EST) -- Tribal governments want easier access to tax-exempt financing on par with states and an expansion of tax credits for economic development, tribal leaders said Wednesday at the first congressional hearing on Native American tax policy in more than two decades.

Tribes are at an economic disadvantage because they can't collect tax revenue like federal, state and local governments in order to provide services like public safety or build roads, schools, water systems and other infrastructure, several tribal leaders said in testimony before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures.
