La. Citizens Can't Sue To Clean Groundwater: Exxon

Law360, New York (September 29, 2009, 1:14 PM EDT) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. has asked a federal judge to toss a Louisiana landowner's claim for damages to clean groundwater allegedly tainted by the oil giant, contending that citizens can't reap money for restoring a state-owned resource.

The oil giant filed a partial motion to dismiss landowner Sweet Lake Land and Oil Co.'s damages claim for groundwater cleanup Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
