Calif. Settles Investigation Of LINA Claims Handling

Law360, New York (September 30, 2009, 2:38 PM EDT) -- Life Insurance Co. of North America has settled a $600,000 dispute with the California Department of Insurance regarding alleged violations in the handling of disability insurance claims.

In its investigation, the Department of Insurance found that LINA had made claims determinations prior to requesting medical records and that claims adjusters ignored substantial new information after a claim had been denied. The Department filed two reports finding LINA did not comply with California's Insurance Code.
