SEC Begins Informal Inquiry Into RIM Stock Options

Law360, New York (October 30, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Research In Motion Ltd., the maker of the ubiquitous Blackberry device, became the latest target in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s crusade against stock options backdating Friday when it received an informal inquiry from the agency.

The Canadian company said that the SEC is seeking documents and information related to RIM’s stock option grants and stock options practices. The company also said it was communicating with the Ontario Securities Commission, Canada’s main securities regulator.
