China Bans Foreign Investment In Online Gaming

Law360, New York (October 12, 2009, 12:37 PM EDT) -- China has banned foreign investment into its burgeoning online video game industry, saying the move is necessary to better regulate the games.

In a joint statement issued Saturday, China's General Administration of Press and Publication and National Copyright Administration said that foreign entities would now be banned from operating online games “in any form.”

The agencies said foreign investment in the industry is barred whether it comes through joint ventures, wholly owned enterprises or cooperatives.
