AT&T Unit Settles E-Rate Bidding Suit For $1.4M

Law360, New York (October 13, 2009, 3:34 PM EDT) -- AT&T Missouri has agreed to pay the U.S. Department of Justice $1.4 million in civil penalties as part of a settlement over allegations that the company engaged in noncompetitive bidding for Internet contracts at Kansas City, Mo., schools.

The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, accused AT&T Inc. unit AT&T Missouri of engaging in noncompetitive bidding practices for contracts in connection with the Federal Communications Commission's E-Rate program, the Justice Department said Thursday.
