Foley & Lardner Lays Off 39 Lawyers

Law360, New York (October 15, 2009, 4:28 PM EDT) -- Foley & Lardner LLP is reportedly laying off 39 of its 988 attorneys, after having added eight offices and hundreds of lawyers over the last five years.

Foley CEO Ralf-Reinhard Boer told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday that the reductions would be spread among many of the firm's 21 offices.

“We have never seen such a downturn ever in demand in the legal services industry,” he said, according to the Journal Sentinel.

The layoffs come as part of a wave of similar announcements.
