Pfizer Must Face Claims It Didn't Monitor Chantix Risks

Law360 (July 15, 2020, 10:34 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. must face claims that it failed to properly monitor smoking-cessation drug Chantix for potential side effects like severe muscle disorders, spasms and even death, the New York Supreme Court has ruled.

Vasiliki Vardouniotis made a baseline case that using Chantix gave her a disorder that causes sudden muscle contractions, and Pfizer's failure to investigate and warn about the drug's side effects is to blame, according to Judge Nancy M. Bannon's July 7th ruling that let the bulk of the case proceed.
