Effort To Unmask Shell Corp. Owners Added To Defense Bill

Law360 (July 21, 2020, 6:57 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a measure meant to unmask the owners of anonymous shell companies, attaching the Corporate Transparency Act to a must-pass defense funding bill.

In a 336-71 vote late Monday, the House approved a batch of amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act that included the text of the Corporate Transparency Act. The stand-alone bill passed the House last fall with some Republicans joining Democrats in support. Lawmakers of both parties have been adding dozens of substantive amendments to the NDAA because the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed progress on measures not directly related to the coronavirus....
