2nd Circ. Blocks Hartford Appeal Of RICO Class Cert.

Law360, New York (October 21, 2009, 1:13 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has denied The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.'s motion to appeal the certification of a class of plaintiffs alleging that the company violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by unfairly charging fees for structured settlement annuities.

In an Oct. 14 order, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit found that class certification was within the lower court's discretion.
