Plan For WTO Leadership Selection Comes Into Focus
Law360 (July 28, 2020, 11:58 AM EDT) -- World Trade Organization members are nearing an agreement on how to choose a replacement for outgoing World Trade Organization Director-General Roberto Azevêdo, a WTO spokesman said Tuesday, adding that he expects a decision to be finalized later this week.
As the eight candidates vying to replace Azevêdo continue meeting with delegations one on one, the WTO still has not decided exactly how the field will be winnowed to choose his successor. WTO spokesman Keith Rockwell said that members are now close to adopting a plan that would eliminate candidates in three phases until a new director-general is selected.
