Tellabs To Snatch Up WiChorus In $165M Cash Deal

Law360, New York (October 23, 2009, 5:47 PM EDT) -- Telecommunications equipment producer Tellabs Inc. plans to acquire wireless gear maker WiChorus Inc. in a $165 million cash deal designed to help the company take advantage of the booming smartphone business, the companies said Friday.

WiChorus produces infrastructure equipment for 3G and 4G networking systems, a business that has seen a growing demand as the popularity of smartphones — which rely on 3G and 4G networking to carry huge amounts of data — has skyrocketed.
