LandAmerica Tries To Cast Off Insurance Action

Law360, New York (October 23, 2009, 7:25 PM EDT) -- LandAmerica Financial Group Inc. has tried to pull the plug on the Texas Department of Insurance’s lawsuit alleging the liquidating company's kickbacks for middlemen inflated title insurance rates in the state.

LandAmerica urged Judge Kevin R. Huennekens of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia to reject TDI’s bid for exclusion from the automatic stay, contending the agency’s untimely request will only serve to further harm the failed real estate services company’s creditors.
