Texas Judge Takes Up Civil Case Against Scruggs

Law360, New York (October 27, 2009, 1:43 PM EDT) -- A lawsuit alleging convicted attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs scammed an Alabama colleague out of millions in asbestos fees in order to pursue lawsuits against tobacco companies has been assigned to a Texas judge after the judge originally assigned to the case recused herself.

Chief Judge Edith H. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit on Friday assigned U.S. District Judge David Hittner of the Southern District of Texas to oversee attorney William Roberts Wilson Jr.'s case against Scruggs.
