EU High Court Warns Luxembourg Over Pregnancy Law

Law360, New York (October 30, 2009, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Europe's highest court has advised a Luxembourg court that national laws that do not give pregnant women who have been fired enough time to challenge their termination or provide any other remedy discriminate against female employees, in violation of European Union laws.

The European Court of Justice handed down its preliminary ruling Thursday, advising a Luxembourg court that its country's 15-day time limit likely runs afoul of EU directives on equal protection and the safety of pregnant workers and those who have recently given birth....
