Lawry's To Fork Out $1M To Settle Male Sex Bias Suit

Law360, New York (November 3, 2009, 12:50 PM EST) -- Lawry's Restaurants Inc. is set to pay out more than $1 million to lay to rest a sex discrimination class action accusing the restaurant chain of failing to hire men into food server positions for decades.

The settlement, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, will see California-based Lawry's shelling out nearly $1.03 million for allegedly maintaining a longstanding companywide policy of hiring only women for server positions, violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
