HHS Increasing IP License Transparency After GAO Rebuke

Law360 (November 23, 2020, 8:10 PM EST) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office has called on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to be more transparent about how its patents get licensed, something HHS has readily agreed to do.

The GAO on Friday released a report requested by lawmakers who were concerned that consumers were paying high costs for drugs developed with taxpayer money, concluding that HHS' lack of transparency has made it difficult for anyone to understand how licensing by HHS' National Institutes of Health arm impacts public health and other big-picture concerns.
