Software Maker Targets 31 High-Tech Firms In Suit Over JPEG Patent

Law360 (April 24, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Texas-based software maker has sued 31 major hardware and software vendors, including Dell and Apple Computer, for allegedly infringing on its claim to an algorithm used in the popular JPEG picture file format.

Forgent Networks filed its lawsuit Thursday in US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, seeking damages and an injunction prohibiting the companies from selling products with technology that infringes upon the patent.
