Judge Upholds Arbitration Award Against Cigna/ACE

Law360, New York (November 14, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal court has slammed the door on defendants’ attempts to alter an arbitration award won by two African-American employees in a race discrimination case brought against Cigna Corp. and Cigna's successor, ACE INA Holdings Inc.

U.S. District Judge Juan R. Sanchez on Thursday affirmed an arbitrator’s decision to award Ethyl L. Wyche and Deborah Reid $25,000 dollars each, despite the defendants’ claims that the arbitrator exceeded the scope of his authority by finding that Wyche and Reid had been subjected to a hostile work environment....
