FTC, DOJ Clear Universal, Bertelsmann Deal

Law360 (November 15, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice have given antitrust approval to Vivendi’s Universal Music Group’s €1.63 billion purchase of BMG Music Publishing.

The deal still faces scrutiny by the European Union in the wake of a court ruling earlier this year that overturned the merger of Sony Corp. and BMG Music Publishing parent, Bertelsmann AG.

The FTC announced the approval Monday.
