New Haven Ordered To Promote Firefighters Per Ricci

Law360, New York (November 25, 2009, 4:02 PM EST) -- A federal judge has ordered the city of New Haven, Conn., to reinstate scrapped promotional exams from 2003 and allow 14 firefighters to advance ranks, following the orders of the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark reverse discrimination ruling.

Judge Janet Bond Arterton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut entered a judgment Tuesday against New Haven on the firefighters' Title VII disparate treatment claim, pursuant to the high court ruling in Ricci v. DeStefano.
