Uniloc Hits Baker's Dozen Over Anti-Piracy Patent

Law360, New York (December 1, 2009, 4:15 PM EST) -- Australian security technology company Uniloc Corp. Pty. Ltd. has accused 13 U.S. companies of unlawfully co-opting an anti-piracy patent that covers systems and methods for securely registering software and other digital media.

Uniloc's U.S. and Singaporean subsidiaries filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Monday, fingering a slew of Web businesses for allegedly infringing Uniloc's U.S. Patent No. 5,490,216 with their software registration systems.
