Asarco Wants Environmental Expert To Assess Liabilities

Law360, New York (November 16, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Asarco LLC has asked the federal bankruptcy judge overseeing its Chapter 11 case for permission to retain an expert consultant to help estimate the mining and smelting company’s environmental liabilities, expected to total billions of dollars.

In an application filed Wednesday, Asarco asked U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Richard S. Schmidt to approve the retention of LECG LLC as a “testifying expert” to provide services related to the company's potential environmental liabilities and natural resource damages claim matters.
