Lafarge Settles USG Wallboard Patent Suit For $105M

Law360, New York (December 7, 2009, 5:45 PM EST) -- A unit of building material producer USG Corp. has reached a $105 million settlement with Lafarge North America Inc., putting to rest a patent infringement suit brought by USG over a method for making wallboard.

Under the terms of the agreement with Lafarge North America and its French parent company Lafarge SA, USG subsidiary U.S. Gypsum Co. will receive $105 million, and in return, Lafarge will obtain a fully paid-up license for the use of certain USG technologies, USG said in a statement Friday.
