UMG Files Copyright Infringement Suit Against MySpace

Law360, New York (November 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Universal Music Group filed a copyright infringement suit against MySpace Inc. on Friday, following up on earlier threats to hold the social networking site accountable for what it called “user-stolen” content.

UMG, which is owned by Vivendi Inc., filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, accusing MySpace of using “extensive efforts to encourage members to upload pirated videos to MySpace servers.”
