EU Draws Rambus Antitrust Probe To A Close

Law360, New York (December 9, 2009, 3:50 PM EST) -- The European Commission has ended its antitrust investigation into Rambus Inc., now that the California-based chip company has made commitments to put a cap on its royalty rates for certain patents covering dynamic random access memory chips.

As part of the deal announced Wednesday, Rambus agreed not to charge any royalties for so-called SDR and DDR chip standards and to charge a maximum royalty rate of 1.5 percent for the later generations of chip standards, which is much lower than the 3.5 percent it is currently...
