Funeral Home Companies Reach FTC Consent Decree

Law360, New York (November 22, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two of the largest funeral services companies in the United States have reached a consent decree with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on a controversial merger that is expected to close at the end of November.

Service Corp. International, the largest U.S. chain of funeral homes and cemeteries, said Wednesday that it stands to wrap up its $856 million acquisition of competitor Alderwoods Group Inc. as soon as Nov. 28, despite stiff objections from industry professionals.
