Seyfarth Embraces Merit-Based Pay For Associates

Law360, New York (December 17, 2009, 3:38 PM EST) -- Seyfarth Shaw LLP is the latest law firm to disclose plans to move away from lockstep and toward a merit-based compensation system for its associates, the firm confirmed Thursday.

In an e-mail sent to all firm attorneys Monday, Seyfarth's executive committee said it planned to introduce the new pay system in January and gradually phase out its current system over the course of 2010. Compensation for 2010 will be based on 2009 performance, the e-mail said.
