Muslim Charity Takes On Comerica

By Jesse Greenspan (November 27, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Muslim charity under investigation by the FBI is challenging a section of the Patriot Act to stop Comerica Bank from closing its accounts and from sharing information with other financial institutions.

In the suit, which was filed Wednesday before the U.S. District Court in Detroit, the nonprofit organization Life for Relief and Development also accused Comerica of violating its civil rights.

"If plaintiff was not a Muslim American charity, or operated by persons of Arabic origin, defendant Comerica would not have engaged in such conduct," Life said.
