Pa. Appeals Court Upholds $1.5M Provera Verdict

Law360, New York (January 5, 2010, 2:02 PM EST) -- In the latest battle over the side effects of hormone replacement drugs, a Pennsylvania appeals court has upheld a $1.5 million verdict awarded to a New Jersey woman who sued two Pfizer Inc.-acquired companies when she developed breast cancer after being prescribed the drugs.

The three-judge panel of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania issued its ruling Thursday, overturning a 2007 decision by the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County to nullify the jury verdict after a five-week trial had concluded.
