Commerce Blasts Essar For Dodging Import Duties

Law360, New York (January 8, 2010, 4:08 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce has imposed a steep penalty on India’s Essar Steel Ltd. for refusing to participate in a review of anti-dumping duties and booking a shipment to the U.S. as a domestic sale.

The International Trade Administration of the Commerce Department announced Friday that the agency had made a preliminary determination to hit Essar with an anti-dumping duty margin of 28.25 percent, based on the company’s uncooperativeness in providing information about its shipments between December 2007 and November 2008.
