Canadian Regulators Warn Crypto Platforms About Marketing

By Elise Hansen (September 23, 2021, 5:32 PM EDT) -- Canadian securities regulators on Thursday warned digital asset platforms against "gambling-style" promotions and social media marketing tactics, saying some strategies could be violating securities laws.

The Canadian Securities Administrators and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada laid out marketing guidelines for registered platforms, including a list of example statements that could violate the law. Some platforms may have crossed the line in their communications, the staff notice said.
