Asarco Released From Wash. Superfund Site Cleanup

Law360, New York (January 8, 2010, 4:45 PM EST) -- Asarco LLC has been released from a 13-year-old consent decree governing the cleanup of a former smelting operation in Ruston, Wash., based on a deal it reached with the U.S. government in the mining company's recent bankruptcy.

Judge Robert J. Bryan of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington agreed Thursday to remove Asarco from the consent decree in response to a joint request this week from the company and the government.
