French, German Telecoms Seek EU Scrutiny For UK Deal

Law360, New York (January 12, 2010, 4:29 PM EST) -- Deutsche Telekom AG and France Telecom SA said Tuesday that they had asked European antitrust regulators for approval of their plan to create the U.K.'s largest cellular provider by combining T-Mobile UK and Orange UK.

T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom said the European Commission would review the proposal to create a combined entity that would have about 28.4 million customers — more than one-third of Britain's current total market.
