Consumer Product Agency Picks Up Steam Under Biden

By Emily Field (October 8, 2021, 4:10 PM EDT) -- The relatively small Consumer Product Safety Commission is transforming into a more aggressive regulator under President Joe Biden, already taking on Amazon over defective goods and putting exercise equipment makers on notice because of safety concerns. 

Usually known for collaborating with industry to address issues, the CPSC also now demonstrates an increased willingness to confront the biggest names in tech retail and to file lawsuits and consumer warnings, attorneys familiar with the agency said. One such warning about Peloton treadmills, which had allegedly caused children's injuries and a death, was eventually followed by a voluntary company recall.
